Governor Moore and Lt. Governor Miller Release Statements on Women’s Equality Day

ANNAPOLIS, MD — Governor Wes Moore and Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller released the following statements commemorating Women’s Equality Day:

Governor Wes Moore:

“Today, 103 years after American women secured the right to vote, we celebrate women’s equality and acknowledge all of the obstacles they’ve overcome. We recognize the importance of equality for all.

However, our work is never done. In order to leave no one behind, we must protect the rights of everyone. That is the only way progress happens. Let me be clear: I fully support the Equal Rights Amendment and I echo the call to remove the 1982 deadline for ratification of the ERA.

Women’s rights are human rights. We must continue working in partnership to ensure that women achieve equality in Maryland and throughout the nation.”

Lieutenant Governor Aruna Miller:

“It’s been 100 years since the Equal Rights Amendment was first drafted. It’s well past time we ratified it in the U.S. Constitution and declared equal rights for women as the law of the land nationwide.

Here in Maryland, we’re proud to be one of the first states to have adopted the ERA. As leaders and policymakers, we are committed to upholding the words enshrined in our Constitution; we will continue the fight to end discrimination on the basis of gender identity, and sexual orientation for all Marylanders.”
